A first fuel cell lesson
The Fuel Cell Car Science Kit makes hydrogen from water with a solar panel and runs a car on it. Horizon lists 6 experiments and 4 to 8 hours of lessons, with teacher and student guides.
Fuel Cell Car Kit, CA$185.90Horizon Educational makes hydrogen fuel cell car kits and runs H2GP, the hydrogen grand prix for schools. With the H2GP Sprint Car Kit, students build a 1:20 scale car, make their own hydrogen and race it. iDesign 365 is an authorized Canadian Horizon reseller with the Sprint, Explorer and Pro kits and the classroom science kits in Canadian dollars, and school purchase orders accepted.
Planning H2GP for your school
H2GP has three levels. Explorer starts at age 7, Sprint at 10 and Pro at 13, so a school can start young and move up as students grow.

A super model to show everyone who is interested in modern technology how the power of sun is splitting water into hydrogen and oxygen. … Ideal for schools and people who are interested. It's simple to built together and the instructions are easy to understand.
KlausFuel Cell Car Science Kit
Great build. Great learning discussions with my 9 year old. If you are not up on your chemistry go and review bond strength and enthalpy. Otherwise just build it and watch the magic happen.
MajordomobillybojangleHydrocar
great item, easy to assembly and shows very well the usage of hydrogen as fuel. Good it comes with a battery back as alternative for the solar cell, so it can be use in a low light room as well.

This is pretty neat. Be sure to use distilled water because regular tap water will eventually ruin the fuel cell.

The company behind it

Horizon Educational makes hydrogen and renewable energy kits for schools, from a first fuel cell car to full competition sets. Horizon says its kits are used in 10,000 schools in 150 countries, with offices in Prague, Los Angeles, Dubai and Australia.
It also runs H2GP, the H2 Grand Prix, where students design, build, test and race fuel cell cars. H2GP says it runs in more than 27 countries with over 18,000 students, from the Explorer level to a World Final.
iDesign 365 is an authorized Canadian Horizon reseller. We price in Canadian dollars, accept school purchase orders and ship across Canada, so there is no cross border duty or brokerage to settle after you order.
From the box to the first race
Students assemble every part themselves: the chassis, wheels, motor, fuel cell, hydrogen tank, tubing and battery pack. Horizon designed it so each part teaches what it does.
The kit includes an electrolyzer, so students split water into hydrogen and oxygen and fill their own tank. The fuel cell then turns that hydrogen back into electricity.
Students race, time their runs and change their design between races. Horizon's Sprint curriculum and app give them tools to plot race times and track their changes.

H2GP, the H2 Grand Prix, is Horizon Educational's programme where students design, build, test and race hydrogen fuel cell cars. H2GP says it runs in more than 27 countries with over 18,000 students, with events leading to a World Final.
According to H2GP, Explorer (XPR) is for ages 7 and up, Sprint for 10 and up and Pro for 13 and up.
In Explorer, students design their own car around a fuel cell kit. Sprint is a 1:20 scale kit car they assemble, fuel and tune. Pro is a radio-controlled 1:10 scale car with a fuel cell power kit and Hydrostik cartridges.
The Sprint Car Kit is one car with everything to make its own hydrogen. The Classroom Pack has six cars for 12 to 24 students. The Competition Package has two Classroom Packs, the Sprint Competition Track with timing and a refuelling bundle. The table above lists each item.
A fuel cell combines hydrogen with oxygen from the air to make electricity, which drives the car's motor. The only by-product is water.
On the Sprint and Explorer kits and the entry science kits, students split water into hydrogen and oxygen with an electrolyzer, powered by a battery pack or a small solar panel. The Pro level uses Hydrostik cartridges, refilled with a Hydrofill station.
Horizon designs these kits for schools and publishes safety guidance with each one. The entry kits make only small amounts of hydrogen from water. Hydrostik cartridges store hydrogen in a solid metal hydride rather than as compressed gas, and Horizon gives storage and charging rules for them. Follow the guide that ships with each kit.
Yes. Technoscience Pôles urbains runs H2GP in the Montreal region, with regional finals and a national final. The 2026 final was held on 11 April at Collège Villa Maria, and the winner qualified for the World Final.
No. Students can build and test the cars without one. The Sprint Practice Track is a roll-out track for class practice, and the Sprint Competition Track adds automated timing for full races.
Horizon lists the Fuel Cell Car Science Kit at 6 experiments over 4 to 8 hours of lessons, with a 28-page teacher guide and a 20-page student guide.
